This is the third post in a row I’ve written full of suggestions of things I think you must buy, so I’m starting to feel a little like some creepy QVC blog. However, today’s shopping post is for a good cause.
My son’s school.
It’s a super-duper-hippie-crunchy-public-Waldorf-school that I love sooooooo much and they barely have enough money to keep the lights on. So every year we have an online auction to help raise money to help pay for things like paper, pencils and one bouncy ball that the whole school has to share. Should our government be paying for all these obvious necessities? Of course. It is a public school, after all. Are they ever going to again? Probably not. They just can’t seem to find enough money in that pesky budget!
Personally, I think that all parents in America should stop raising money and volunteering in schools. We should let the schools crumble around us so that we become the laughing stock of the rest of the world who actually values education. Once our government is completely embarrassed and humiliated – watch the money pour into our schools! I guarantee it because people, we know there’s money there, but as long as parents have bake sales and mow the lawn (yes, parents are actually mowing the lawn at schools now), the money will never come.
But until that dream becomes a reality, I’m going to make a good old-fashioned pitch for you to help us raise money for our sweet, little school by checking out our fabulous online auction!
I’m going to show you the items that I was hording for myself. My plan? Say nothing to anyone about these items and then at the last minute bid on them so they would be mine and only mine forever! But that’s not really nice, is it? I started feeling like Gerald in the Gerald and Piggy book, “Should I share my ice cream?”
I didn’t want to share my ice cream, but it’s for a good cause so I’m going to. Here are some of the marvelous things I’ve had my eye on –
Becky Kelso Necklace – I’ve been coveting a piece of Becky Kelso jewelry for years. She is a famous jewelry designer and her stuff is all over magazines and worn by celebrities like Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lopez. The fact that one of her necklaces is on our auction is mind-blowing. It’s like finding a Beetles White album at a garage sale. It’s not just a piece of jewelry. It’s an investment.
Becky Kelso ring – Also mindblowing. Also fabulous…. And look at the price!!!! You must get this ring! And if you don’t, I will!
Oberon Tote – This company makes artisan leather products. They are handmade, incredibly durable and buttery soft. This tote also has an amazing tree on it that just kills me. This bag is so chic and one of a kind. It’s a steal for the price, really.
Felted soap — I love these felted soaps and they are usually much more expensive than this. They are made of wool so while you are soaping up, you are also exfoliating your skin. They are so cute too — a great gift.
Those are my favorites on the site, but there’s so much more. Check out the class projects and get-away trips – both amazing. Also, if you want wine, check out the wine selection. These are world-class wines made around here that most people have never even heard of. So if you want to impress a wine snob near you, get them one of these wines. Or if you want to just get drunk, these wines are good for that too.
The auction ends in two days, so start shopping!
And if you do buy anything, on behalf of the children of Sunridge School, thanks for another year of toilet paper.
